Tip of the Week

What is netstat? It’s the combination of the words network and statistics. It allows you to get information on your various network connections and is quite powerful with a lot of different switches you can combine and use to gain various insights. It’s also considered an essential tool for troubleshooting networks, so it’s good to learn. You will need to install net-tools in order to use this command. Today we’re going to give you a few switches worth checking out on your home computer.

netstat -a – will list all ports and connections regardless of their state or protocol
netstat -at – if you just want to list all TCP ports
netstat -au – if you want to list all UDP ports
netstat -i – To see transactions receiving and transferring packets in the kernel interface table

There are many more powerful switches to use here so check out netstat.
